Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act defines a supervisor as anyone who “has charge of a workplace or authority over a worker”. In Ontario, these supervisors are required to complete a basic occupational health and safety awareness training program within one week of working as a supervisor. The purpose of this course is to fulfill that regulatory requirement under the Occupational Health and Safety Awareness and Training Regulation.

New and existing supervisors within Ontario workplaces.
Course Outline
Upon completion of this course, participants will:
- Be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Know the rights and responsibilities of employers, supervisors and workers under the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Understand the role of the supervisor within the Internal Responsibility System
- Be aware of the supervisor’s role in hazard recognition and assessment, risk evaluation and control implementation
- Understand the value of workplace policies and procedures, training, posters and other preventative measures
- Be familiar with the various sources of health and safety information
- Understand the position of supervisor as a role model for healthy and safe work habits.
